MacBook Black screen/ screen brightness turning all the way down

HI all. Wh n I turn on my MacBook I get a black screen ... Or so I thought. After googling possible issues I learned that I could toggle f1 and f2 and get the screen to brighten. Eventually I realized the screen is not actualply black but completely dimmed ... You can still see a very slightly lit screen if the room is dark. Toggling f1 and f2 only works some of the time and I have to do it about 50 times before the screen stays bright enough for me to use.

I have searched and search and cannot find a fix for this. Does anyone have any idea what this probl m can be?
